LEGAL & SAFETY

Legal and safety information.

Before you modify your equipment, read about the risks, your responsibilities, software rights and the limits of our support and liability.

1. Who we are and who we represent.

OverCue is a community-run, independent, noncommercial project supported by three DJs in their own time. We fund it ourselves and it earns no revenue. “Not-for-profit” describes how we operate, not registered charity or tax-exempt status.

We are not affiliated with, authorized by, sponsored by, or endorsed by AlphaTheta Corporation, its brands, or its affiliates. We speak only for ourselves. We contribute as individuals, outside our jobs. Our employers are not involved and do not sponsor or endorse the project. We do not offer their authority, information or resources through OverCue.

2. Understand the risks before installing.

OverCue mods are unofficial, experimental software. Installing, activating, updating, using, or removing them can cause crashes, unexpected restarts, interrupted or incorrect audio, data or settings loss, security problems, or a player that cannot start or be used (a “bricked” unit). Recovery may fail, require paid professional repair, or be impossible. Testing does not eliminate these risks.

You are responsible for deciding whether you are entitled to modify your equipment and how and where you use it. Follow the documented instructions and account for the consequences of your own actions. This responsibility does not waive rights or excuse conduct that the law does not permit us to exclude from liability.

  • Only modify equipment you personally own and are legally entitled to modify. Do not modify rented, venue, shared, or someone else’s equipment using these instructions.
  • OverCue supports both hardware profiles of the CDJ-3000. Follow the installation and removal instructions in OverCue Desktop.
  • Keep separate backups of your music, settings and USB contents. Preparing a USB may erase the entire drive. Read the app's warning and double-check which drive you have selected.
  • Test before taking the software to a gig, leave time for recovery and have a reliable backup way to play music. Do not rely on a beta for a set you cannot afford to interrupt.
  • Modification may affect manufacturer warranty or support eligibility. Statutory rights remain governed by applicable law.

Support and recovery limits

OverCue is a volunteer software project, not a hardware repair or emergency recovery service. We do not offer guaranteed unbricking, replacement equipment, on-site assistance, response times, or compensation for interrupted performances. Do not install on the assumption that we can restore your player or recover your data. Any help is subject to our availability; mandatory legal obligations remain unaffected.

AlphaTheta does not provide support through OverCue, and we cannot promise assistance, warranty coverage, or repair on its behalf. Manufacturer service availability and coverage are determined by AlphaTheta or its authorized providers under their terms and applicable law. Contact them directly for an assessment.

3. What testing can and cannot tell you.

We prioritize security, stability, compatibility, familiar player behavior and documented recovery instructions. Code review, automated tests, emulation and tests on real players each tell us different things. Release notes describe changes and known issues.

The test areas and interactive demos on this site do not mean every music source, file format, DJ technique or combination of settings has passed testing. Read your release's instructions and limitations. We do not claim AlphaTheta certification or approval.

4. Turning features off and removing OverCue.

We aim to add features you can choose to use while keeping the player familiar. Turning on a mod changes how that feature works, and bugs can affect other functions. Follow the removal instructions for the version you installed. Deleting files from a USB may not be enough.

We cannot guarantee that removal will undo every change, be free of risk or avoid the need for professional service. Do not interrupt an operation that is writing data or improvise recovery steps. Manufacturer firmware updates can make OverCue incompatible, so compatibility must be checked again.

5. Software distribution and third-party rights.

Our distribution rule is explicit: OverCue releases must not contain proprietary Pioneer DJ or AlphaTheta software or firmware, complete images or fragments, manufacturer executables, fonts or artwork, cryptographic keys, certificates, credentials, or confidential manufacturer material. This includes encoded, obfuscated, or embedded copies. A custom filename or container does not change that rule.

Only our independently developed code and third-party components with established redistribution rights may be released. Each app, updater, USB payload, and downloadable package must be reviewed against this rule before distribution. This policy is a release requirement, not certification of every current or historical package. Obtain official manufacturer software only through authorized channels.

Licensed open-source cryptographic libraries are distinct from manufacturer keys or proprietary firmware. Open-source software, fonts, and other components retain their authors’ rights, license terms, copyright notices, and any source-delivery obligations. See the software licenses and notices for version-specific information and the separate community acknowledgments.

A credit or upstream link does not replace a required license text, corresponding source, or permission to redistribute. Nothing in this notice restricts rights granted by a component’s license, including applicable rights to inspect, modify, redistribute, or obtain source. Those licenses do not grant rights in manufacturer firmware, keys, music, model weights, trademarks, or other separately owned material.

Use only music, stems, software, and devices you are entitled to use. Hardware ownership, free distribution, and a noncommercial purpose do not by themselves authorize bypassing technical protections or redistributing another party’s work. Applicable software terms and intellectual-property law continue to apply.

6. Product names and trademarks.

AlphaTheta, Pioneer DJ, rekordbox, Pro DJ Link, and product names such as CDJ3000 and CDJ3000X are used to identify the relevant products or explain compatibility. Rights in these names and marks belong to their respective owners. OverCue does not claim those rights or imply an official relationship. Community project acknowledgments likewise do not imply endorsement or partnership.

7. Warranty and liability limits.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the volunteer contributors provide the software and information “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability, or non-infringement. No promise of future features, compatibility, updates, response times, or continued support is made. Express obligations and non-excludable statutory rights remain unaffected.

To the extent a limitation is legally effective, liability for ordinary negligence causing economic or property loss is excluded, except for breach of an essential contractual obligation. For such a breach, liability for ordinary negligence is limited to loss that was foreseeable and typical for that relationship. This language is not a blanket release of all claims.

Rights that remain protected: Nothing in this notice excludes or limits liability for intent, fraud, gross negligence, recklessness, injury to life, body or health, bodily or moral injury where protected by law, mandatory product liability, or any other liability or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

In particular, mandatory protections under German law, Québec law, and applicable United States law take precedence. No exclusive forum, forced arbitration, class-action waiver, or surrender of mandatory local rights is imposed by this notice. Applicable conflict-of-laws rules determine the governing law and jurisdiction.

8. Visiting this site does not sign a contract.

This page explains the project and its risks. Merely visiting the website does not constitute a signature or acceptance of a new software contract. Any release-specific terms must be presented through the relevant release or installation process. Nothing here authorizes activities that would otherwise be unlawful.

9. Questions or concerns?

We welcome contact from DJs, contributors, rights holders, and the team at AlphaTheta Corporation. Please use our contact page for the appropriate channel. Do not post passwords, keys, device identifiers, private documents, firmware dumps, or exploitable vulnerability details in public reports.
